A Day To Enjoy, Not To Stress Over

With the infamous ”love” holiday right around the corner, my friends and co-workers seem to be in a stress-ridden panic of what they should purchase or organize for their significant other. Some would argue that this holiday was created by Hallmark-type companies to sell large quantities of heart-shaped candies, over-sized stuffed animals, and kill about a million trees to make the cliché cards we give to our loved ones. Others would say it is a day to take time to appreciate those you care for and to go beyond the every day exchanges of “I love you’s” and “thank you’s”. No matter which theory you favor, I would like to provide a few suggestions for gift ideas and/or activities to do that are local and a great deal!

Gift Ideas:

1.) Groupon.com has a great selection of gifts right now for the special person in your life, from wine packages to NFL sandwich makers customized for your favorite team! But hurry, they are selling quickly.

2.) Boudoir Photography sessions have made a strong comeback this year. Not only does this eye-catching gift appeal to your significant other for years to come, but talk about a day to be pampered and boost your self-confidence through the roof! Local photographers are more affordable than actual studios, so do some research and ask around for reviews of the photographers in your area.

3.) Livingsocial.com has deals on B&B stays, vacations to somewhere exotic, and even deals for the more expensive restaurants in the Northern VA area, if you feel like going over-the-top this year.

4.) Women love to be pampered, it’s no secret; Spa days, massages, pedicures, the works! However, most of us are on a budget these days and can’t afford to go to an actual spa. So here’s a hint: fire up some lightly scented candles, make your own makeshift massage table out of blankets on the floor, and get some massage oils or lotions from your local drug store. When your significant other gets home, have a robe or towel waiting for them, a glass of wine in hand, and let them know their spa appointment begins in 10 minutes–compliments of the house!

Local Restaurants/Outtings:

1.) Vint Hill Craft Winery: “Reds & Chocolate – The Wine Pairing of Love” Private Guided Tastings Reds from Virginia, California, and Washington state. Event on Saturday 2/11 12:00pm to 5:00pm,  2/12 Sunday 11:00am to 6:00pm. Just $25.00 per couple, and what a unique event to be a part of! Reservations Recommended! 703-991-0191

2.) Claire’s At The Depot: The newly renovated restaurant off of 3rd Street in Old Town Warrenton will offer you and yours a relaxing environment to sip on delicious cocktails or wine while waiting for each dish of their decadent 4-course meal available on Valentine’s Day only.  To see the menu, visit http://www.clairesrestaurant.com/menus/new-years-eve/

3.) Iron Bridge Restaurant & Wine Company: Take a walk on Main Street before making your way into this romantic atmosphere. There is a sensational yet affordable menu available exclusively on February 13 and 14 to celebrate the holiday which can be viewed on their Facebook page. Reservations Recommended! 540-349-9339

4.) Cheesecake Heaven: Visit the Drive-thru in New Baltimore and enjoy a quiet night in. Pick up a heart-shaped cheesecake or a slice of your hunny’s favorite flavors to take home with you. There are coupons available in the Fauquier Times-Democrat TODAY. Call today to order your cheesecake or find out what is available. 540-341-4114
